Ayurveda is a time-tested Indian system of healing that has been in existence for some 5,000 years. Literally translated from Sanskrit as ‘science of life’, it is a subtle, all-embracing prescription for how to live our lives, and its message is as relevant today as it was when it first emerged.

Ayurveda works by assessing and treating the whole person, rather than just isolated symptoms, through a holistic toolkit of massage, yoga, meditation, nutrition, and herbs.

Ayurvedic well-being has the power to revolutionise our lives. Embracing what it teaches us can enhance relaxation, sharpen mental focus, help with grief, insomnia and other stressful life situations, change our eating habits for the better and bring honest skincare to our bodies.

Reiki Healing

Reiki, pronounced ‘Ray-Key’, is a Eastern healing system discovered in the early 1900s by a Japanese Buddhist monk called Mikao Usui. Reiki means ‘spiritual life-force energy’. When you are connected to this loving energy during a reiki treatment it gently flows through you initiating your body’s own natural ability to heal itself and re-balance. Reiki releases energy blockages and allows your life-force to flow freely.

There are no contraindications for Reiki so this treatment is suitable for everyone including pregnant women, children, babies and even pets.

During a treatment, you will lie fully clothed on a comfortable therapy couch whilst I place my hands above or on, major energy centres along the body called Chakras. There are seven key Chakra energy points along the body. These Chakras govern major organs, glands and emotions in the area where they are based.

Specialist

Shanti Soul offers a variety of specialist treatments from Reiki that releases energy blockages and allows your life-force to flow freely to Lomi lomi which is a traditional Hawaiian massage that uses a combination of massage techniques, nut oils, and sometimes elements of prayer, breathing and dance to restore energy and soothe the body.

Mindful Meditation

It has long been known that the way we think, and how we deal with our thoughts, plays a big part in our happiness, resilience, and mental health. Mindfulness is firstly about awareness and the ability to live in the present moment. Meditation is one of the ways in which we can learn to be mindful. In a therapeutic / developmental sense, mindfulness is a mind-body based, psychosensory approach that can help people change the way they think and feel about their experiences, especially stressful experiences.

Mindfulness meditation is at the heart of Mindfulness-Based Interventions (MBIs), which include, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). Both offer pathways to paying attention to the present moment, using a variety of therapeutic approaches.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends MBCT for the prevention of relapse in recurrent depression. Mindfulness based cognitive therapy combines mindfulness techniques with elements from cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT). This combination approach helps to break the negative thought patterns that are characteristic of recurrent depression.

​MBSR was originated by Dr Jon Kabat-Zinn and colleagues at The University of Massachusetts Medical Centre and, in addition to helping people manage serious stress, it helps them deal with anxiety, pain and illness.

Mindfulness is a potentially life-changing way to alter our feelings in positive ways, and an ever-expanding body of scientific evidence shows that it really does work, not just for depression but also to help people deal with anxiety, as well as emotional and physical pain.
