Stubborn fat deposits
We all have “problem areas” where we deposit fat and are unable to shift despite a healthy diet, exercise and lifestyle choices.
Cellulite is formed by fat compressed between the connective tissues of the skin. The dimpled appearance is caused by the lumps of fat and intervening fibers of collagen. Cellulite is NOT a fat problem (though excess fat will only increase the appearance).Cellulite is a SKIN problem. Very few treatments are shown to be effective. Mesotherapy may help.
A youthful look depends on having the right amount of facial fat in the right places. By the age of 55 you may have lost 40% of the fat in your face, which once gave it a plump, full, youthful appearance. Key areas of volume loss causing a prematurely aged appearance are the temples, mid-face and the area below the cheekbones. Rapid weight loss and extreme fitness training often accelerate – ie the “gym face” or “training face” – hollow facial appearance and loose, wrinkly skin.
Excessive sweating is a distressing fact of life for 1% of the population, in whom sweating occurs at inappropriate times, and profusely. It can occur in many different areas of the body. Wetness and staining of clothes, clammy hands, constant worry about change of clothes, deodorant and pads – all this adds to the distress.
Aluminium based deodorants, Iontophoresis and botulinum toxin treatment are all options.
Axillary hyperhidrosis can be treated by Botulinum Toxin A. Miradry and surgical options are also used.
Discoloured or dull skin - skin pigmentation and texture concerns
Uneven pigmentation, “age spots”, blotchy weathered skin from years of make-up and sun damage, are the most significant marker of aging. Age, UV exposure damage, and hormonal changes are all reflected in your skin.
Skin conditioning regimes, prescription skincare such as Obagi Nu-Derm, Decolletage, Dermaceutic Mela-peel are used to treat damaged and sensitive skin and transform its behaviour.
Acne in teenage or in adulthood
Most (over three quarters) of acne sufferers develop it in their teens, and some suffer into their 30’s and even 40’s. If acne results in persistent cysts, nodules, or gets infected, complications like scarring, hyperpigmentation occur. Anxiety and depression are common in acne sufferers.
Acne is a more distressing condition than we realize. It cannot be “cured”, but there are ways to control it, prevent scarring, and reduce patient distress. Obagi Clenziderm MD, prescription topical antibiotics are very useful.
